We’ve been at work with some reorganizational activities and the Admin team felt that a newletter article would be good to discuss a few items as we continue to grow as a community.
Community Guidance and Oversight
It is very important that each one of us strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment. This is a core principal for this community. We share love of aircraft, of aviation, and love of this flight sim hobby.
There are times and circumstances that sometimes arise where we fall short of following the rules. It is important for everyone to understand the outcomes from those issues, problems, or concerns.
Moderators and Administrator roles
The Virtual Flight Admin and moderation teams are here to help the community stay organized, answer questions, give direction and guidance in terms of content placement (to help ALL find answers to similar questions), and to keep a watchful eye on shenanigans that sometimes take place in the social media space.
Virtual Flight Online continues to grow and we serve this community as volunteers with a service mentality. A Big Thank you to everyone on the moderation and admin teams!
Decisions of the Moderation Team are final
As moderators and admins, we encounter and assist with all sorts of issues, problems and questions. We are highly collaborative as a team, and we do discuss decisions regarding membership and direction of the forum.
If a moderator asks you to relocate content or refrain from posting certain subjects, please receive the request in the spirit it is intended. If we put things in logical places, and stay on topic, the new person who joins us in the future has a good chance of finding that same answer to their item or topic of interest.
Follow the discord rules as posted. They are a contract that all of us should keep as part of being in the community.
As a member of the community, how can I help?
Review the Rules and follow them!
Be kind and respectful to each other.
Explore the FAQ link located near the top of the Navigation Bar.
Please take some time to review the structure of the Discord site. To ensure you are seeing all of the content, click on BROWSE CHANNELS. You can follow channels that are of specific interest to you!
Use the reorganized forums within Community to post topics, ask questions, and get support. Tag your post with support if you need assistance.
Any support related post or off-topic posts that is placed within GENERAL will be deleted by an admin or moderator. As we have mentioned previously, GENERAL isnt a catch all. The MSFS2020, MSFS2024, Invitations, Airline-forum, Events-Forum, Group-flight Lounge, and Media should provide homes for your content, question, or request.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this one!
Group Flight Rules and Reminders
Our group flights are filled with friendly discussion, helpful hints, encouraging each other as we continue to learn from each other and enjoy each others company. This is a wonderful part of flight simulation and if you have not tried a group flight, we enourage you to do so! Group flights are growing, frequently scheduled, and attacting new participants.
Group Flight Rules
The Rules are simple for these activities and align with rules within the rest of the Discord site:
No Sports
No Religion
No Politics
No Profanity
Stay away from potentially offensive topics
Be 16 years old or older
What should you expect if you break the rules?
We have a wonderful mix of people from all over the globe that participate on a regular basis in VFO group flights. Problems and issues are very rare, but they do happen. Our moderators are here to help make flights friendly and welcoming for everyone.
1) If an offense is mild in nature, expect to receive verbal correction (or a DM) from a moderator or admin. Participants are encouraged to help foster a welcoming community and will point out transgressions to each other. Be prepared to offer an apology to the participants.
2) For actions of increasing severity such as using profanity, expect to be suspended for a period of time up to 1 week, removal from the discord, or permanent ban. Action taken will be based on the specifics and severity of the behavior. Group Flight Hosts, can, at their discretion mute a member, or issue a time out. Expect a DM communication from the admin team for futher information.
3) Sexual language or content, spamming, slurs, racist comments, and political commentary will result in an swift and immediate administrative action. There is Zero Tolerance on this type of activity. There is no gray area here.
For clarity, If an issue or problem that takes place during a group flight, you may be muted, kicked from the flight, given an immediate time out, kicked from the Discord site, or banned permanently.
In closing, following the rules makes activites more pleasant and engaging for all participants. Remember, the admin team is here to help everyone!
