Evolving the VirtualFlight.Online Discord Server
A much needed re-organisation and expansion is under-way at VirtualFlight.Online!
We have been busy in the hangar! To better support our growing community and the diverse range of simulators we all fly, we have completely overhauled our Discord server structure.
Whether you are a civilian bush pilot, a virtual airline captain, or a combat aviator, our new organization makes it easier than ever to find exactly what you’re looking for.
What is Discord?
Discord is a free voice, video, and text chat app that’s used by tens of millions of people to talk and hang out with their communities and friends online.
People use Discord daily to talk about many things, ranging from art projects and family trips to homework and mental health support. It’s a home for communities of any size, but it’s most widely used by small and active groups of people who talk regularly.
People love Discord because it’s a home for all their communities and groups of friends. It’s a place where they can be themselves and spend time with other people who share their interests and hobbies. There’s no algorithm deciding what they should see, no endless scrolling, and no news feed. Conversations on Discord are driven by shared interests.
We use Discord for:
News
Conversation (about anything and everything to do with flight simulation)
Live voice chat (both during flights, and just hanging out together)
Screen sharing (by far the best way of getting help with simulator or aircraft issues)

What have we done ?!
We’ve moved a number of channels around, renamed others, and created entirely new areas. We have also posted a helpful pinned message at the top of each forum to help guide everybody.
Here’s a quick run-down:
Community
General - a space for everyday hangar talk - topics that don’t fit anywhere else.
Introductions - the ice-breaker zone. A space for members to tell the rest of the community about their aviation story.
Screenshots & Media - dedicated spots for your screen captures and flight videos.
Group Flights
Lounge - a text chat channel for anybody taking part in a group flight
Voice Chat - a voice chat channel for anybody taking part in a group flight. If you’re taking part in a simulator specific flight, it’s better to use that simulator’s chat channel.
Specialized Event Hubs
Each major simulator now has its own ecosystem. Whether you are on Flight Simulator 2024, 2020, X-Plane 12, or DCS, you will find three distinct forum types for each:
Forums - general discussion, news, and technical help specific to that sim.
Invitations - the “Fly With Me Now” zone. Post your location and find a wingman instantly.
Events - scheduled group flights and sorties with specific dates and times
Chat - a dedicated voice chat channel for each simulator
The Virtual Airline
Our Airline operations are still covered:
Use the #airline-forum to discuss routes and fleet.
Check #airline-ranks to see your progress on the leaderboard, updated live by our bot.
VATSIM
For those who enjoy the realism of live ATC, the #vatsim-forum and #vatsim-media channels are now live. Share event news, coordinate “Cross the Pond” legs, or get help from the more experienced members of the community!
The Resources Library
We have a range of forums to help you share across a range of subjects:
#logbook - share your personal flight logs and milestones.
#flightplans - looking for a great route? Find or share .pln and .fms files here.
#software & #hardware - get advice on the best plugins or the latest flight sticks.
#its-on-sale - never miss a flight sim bargain!
Voice Comms Reminder
Every category now has a dedicated Voice Chat channel. We highly encourage you to jump in while you fly!
⚠️ Safety Briefing - as always, please remember that all channels (text and voice) must remain family-friendly. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming community for all, and will act when required to do so.
