Announcing the Indian Ocean Islands and Madagascar Tour!
Our event tour for September 2023 takes us across the Indian Ocean Islands and Madagascar.
For September, we’ve created a new event tour that will let you visit some of the most scenic islands of the Indian Ocean, with a bonus side trip exploring the national parks and peaks of Madagascar.
This mammoth tour begins in the Maldives, taking off from Malé and heading south, towards the islands of Kadhdoo and Gan. From Gan, we head further south towards the British Indian Ocean Territory of Diego Garcia, an active British Navy base. From Diego Garcia, we head west towards the Seychelles, visiting the islands of Mahé, Praslin and Desroches before heading southeast towards Madagascar, paying the island a brief visit before heading west to Comoros. We then island hop east across the Comoro Islands before returning to Madagascar. We zig-zag our way across Madagascar, overflying some of the famous national parks and peaks before heading to the small island of Sainte-Marie off the eastern coast of Madagascar. We then head southeast back out over the Indian Ocean towards Réunion Island, Mauritius and Rodrigues Island. From Rodrigues, we head northwest back towards Seychelles International Airport on the island of Mahé, stopping off at Coëtivy Island on the way. From Mahé, we head east towards Cocos Island, returning to Diego Garcia for fuel én route. Finally, we head further east from Cocos Island towards our final destination, Christmas Island.
This tour has a large variety of legs, 38 in total, ranging from 24nm to 1500nm so a variety of aircraft will be needed to complete this tour. Most airfields have runways longer than 4,000 feet, with the airfields either end of longer legs having suitable runways over 7,000 feet long. There is the odd grass runway thrown in here and there for variety so make sure you choose suitable aircraft!
