A fresh look at Volanta
Following on from the recent announcement that we will be transitioning from Transmitter to Volanta in the not too distant future, several friends asked if I might record a refresher video about Volanta.
You can download Volanta for free from https://volanta.app
I’ll also take the opportunity to clear a few questions up along the way:
Volanta is a flight tracking app - not a flight planning app. It is best used in-concert with existing apps such as LittleNavMap or Navigraph (which helps to keep their display’s mercifully clear of lots of aircraft icons).
Volanta shows where everybody is, refreshing about every 10 seconds.
You can not only see your flight plan and track, but if you click on another aircraft, you can see their flight plan and track.
You don’t have to setup a flight plan at all - Volanta will happily record your flights regardless. It’s just nice to tell it your plans so you can compare the “planned” versus “actual” easily.
If you pay for the Premium version of Volanta, it saves state - so if the simulator crashes you can be back “where and as you were” in minutes. I’ve not tried it myself, but others swear by it.
Happy to answer further questions in the comments!
